Bani DR Report -
March 11
Ed, Esther and I along with
Gaudy Ruiz ( President of the
Bani Rotary Club) and at least
one other Bani Rotary Club
member visited 9 elementary
schools including a total of 14
classes, And a total of 492
students of the fourth grade. At
each school we encouraged the
teachers and the principals to
continue work with the
dictionaries. If possible, I
will be glad to show some of the
photos of the students
demonstrating their enthusiasm
in receiving the dictionaries,
sometimes students who did not
have a pencil with which to
write their name in the
dictionary.
All of us were in one host
family in which both the husband
and wife had lived and worked in
the US. They were very generous
with their hospitality and we
genuinely enjoyed being with
them.
On the Saturday night of our
arrival, we had dinner in the
house of the former Club
President and on Sunday, the
current President, and her
husband, Jose, and Martin
Domenech (who had visited us
four years ago) and his spouse
and kids took us along the coast
to La Romana to visit several
touristic sites. Different Club
members took us out for lunches
and dinners.
On Tuesday evening, we all
attended their weekly meeting at
one member's home and Ed gave a
thank you talk which Esther
translated and I gave a talk in
Spanish thanking Gaudy and Jose
for all the work they did to
bring off the Project with
success!! And I talked a bit
about the importance if literacy
in all aspects of life, personal
and professional.
I also have copies of the
finances from Gaudy.
All in all, after almost a year
of efforts to plan this project,
it finally worked out very
successfully.
One regret is that Cal was not
able to participate due to a
serious illness of his youngest
brother.
