Club Meeting January 6

SPECIAL NOTE: This is a special appeal to every member to make every effort to attend and participate in Wednesday morning’s meeting.

We have had some very significant successes during the past year, and we want to review those and talk about ways in which we can benefit from them. In particular, I would point to our Fall Into Fitness event, which really served to underscore a great relationship with a true community partner, CCBC. We managed to hit our sponsorship and budget goals, even though we fell somewhat short in our runner participation goals, and have a great base on which to build future events. Also, our recent community – wide gathering of leaders at Rolling Road Golf Club, just a month ago, was a huge success in building credibility and respect for our organization.

However, we have also suffered from a rather significant loss of membership, and a loss of leadership with some recent resignations. Our recruiting efforts have not been very successful lately. We have some leadership vacancies, and that makes it that much more difficult to get things done.

This club belongs to every single member, and every opinion is critical. This is no more my club than it is yours. If you can possibly make this meeting, it could be a very valuable time of open and frank discussion. It’s fairly easy to talk about what someone else ought to do, but I would particularly encourage each of you to talk about what YOU would like to do. Chances are pretty good that there are others who might feel the same way. Even though our numbers are down, we can compensate if we want to by raising the percentage of ACTIVE members.

1) Fund raising goals, immediate and long range ; 2) Where do we send the money we raise?; 3) How do we maximize our fund raising and PR efforts? and 4) Do we want to assist in other ways, like volunteering in country? I would appreciate it if a member would be willing to participate in this call on behalf of our club. If you can do this, please let me know and I will give you the relevant information regarding the call.

One of the options is to send the funds directly to the Rotary’s Disaster Relief Rotary Action Group (DRRAG). This is a standing committee that coordinates Rotary’s Disaster Relief efforts. They already have an excellent website up (www.drrag.org/ ) with up to the minute information on what Rotary is doing in Haiti on a number of fronts, including Shelterbox operations (930 units already shipped, 1,000 more being packed and shipped for free from the UK by Virgin Airways.)
