***********************************************************
UPCOMING EVENTS / ANNOUNCEMENTS:

REMINDER: Now you can order your Sunrise Rotary apparel online. Click on the link to go to the Queensboro website (www.queensboro.com) and choose the model, size and color you want. Then go to our club website (www.rotarycatonsvillesunrise.org) and click on the Rotary Merchandise and Apparel link at the top of the page. Fill out the order form. While you are there, make sure you order your “official” shirt so we can all match! Remember, if you wear any club apparel to a meeting you get a “free” happy dollar.

DATA ENTRY HELP NEEDED: There are four file boxes of club financial records that need to be reviewed in order to compile a mailing list of past supporters of various club events, so that we can have a database for future use in raising funds, distributing information about our events, etc. This would include purchasers of tickets to events such as the bullroast and book festival, donors and sponsors of the bull roast and 5K, etc. The boxes are all in Cal Oren’s office, and there is a spare computer available to use to input the names and addresses on to a simple Excel spreadsheet. Alternatively, someone could take a box of records home and work through them that way.

12/2/08: Four Hands: One Concert- featuring Roberto Bravo & Victoria Foust; at Organization of American States Building, Hall of the Americas, Washington DC.
6:30 Wine Reception with hors d'oeuvres; 7:30 Concert; 9:30 Meet the Artists. Benefit for COANIQUEM Burned Children Foundation (BCF) sponsored by the Washington and Capitol Hill Rotary Clubs. Details: Contact Len Salas at 202-261-3554.

12/6/08: The Red Cross has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations of all types, as supplies are at a critically low level. There will be a blood drive at the Bloomsbury Community Center on Saturday, Dec. 6th, from 8 am to 1:30 pm. While walk-ins are accepted, it is better to call and make an appointment, by calling 1-800-GIVELIFE. I called and asked for an early appointment, and they told me there was virtually no one signed up between 8 and 9 am.

12/15/08: Deadline for Nominations for District Governor. All forms must be into the District 7620 office no later than close of business on the 15th. Also, please don’t forget to include the outlined items with the form. You will need eight (8) copies to submit. Information: Andrew Baum at 301-371-8384, or cdmabaum@comcast.net.

12/18/08: The Owings Mills / Reisterstown Rotary Club invites visitors to their Thursday morning meetings. They meet at Mark's Deli, at 21 Main Street in Reisterstown (just SE of the intersection of Rte 140 (Main St) and Rte 30, across from the Shell Station, from 7:30 – 8:30 am. For more information, speaker schedule, etc., contact Club Secretary Ed Underiner at edunderriner@comcast.net .

12/31/08: District 7620 (Ours) and 7260 (Long Island, NY) Combined District Conference / Cruise to Bermuda, May 9-14, 2009. Cruise will depart from New Jersey, and free bus transportation from Timonium Fairgrounds for District 7620 members is provided. LOTS more information on the District Website: www.rotary7620.org.

12/31/08: For the last 15 years, the Parole (Annapolis) Rotary Club has operated a rather unique literacy project known at B.I.G. (Books for International Goodwill.) This project accepts donated books, processes them and ships to overseas. They maintain a huge warehouse in Maryland. The currently receive over 20,000 books per month, have over 90,000 on hand for processing, and 75,000 waiting to be shipped. They are looking for clubs to make contributions to their shipping fund, either at large, or by “adopting” one of the recipients who have requested books. The can ship a container of 25,000 books for about $4,000. They have a waiting list of over 40 recipients from all parts of the world, who don’t have the funds to even pay for shipping. Some of the requesters have been waiting for more than a year, including some Peace Corp supported villages in Zambia, Watotoa Child Care Ministries in Uganda, and the Avanoa Tutusa region of Samoa. For more information, check out www.big-books.org, or contact Steve Frantzich frntzic@comcast.net or 410 293 6865, or Bob Whitcomb bwhitcomb2@comcast.net or 410 880 0706.
