Speaker: Jim Himel of the
Catonsville Heritage
Foundation
The Heritage Foundation
supports community
activities in the
Catonsville area. These
include the Catonsville
Celebrations Committee, a
Catonsville organization for
Katrina Relief, the
Catonsville Historical
Society, Comet Stadium, the
Catonsville Library and
others.
A current priority of the
Foundation is development of
a community arboretum on 23
acres located on the grounds
of Catonsville High School,
which has the support of the
Catonsville Recreation and
Parks Council. The Lurman
Arboretum Foundation, a
501©3 charity, has been
organized for this purpose.
The intention is to restore
a stone cottage on the
grounds, restore the Lurman
conservatory, rebuild an
English knot garden, design
a water garden, foot paths
and a “Tot Lot”. The hope is
to lease these 23 acres from
Baltimore County Board of
Education to a community
foundation. A kick-out
clause would protect the
Board of Education, which so
far has not been favorable
to the idea, in the event
that the site was needed for
further education expansion
in the future. This is not
seen as likely.
Contributions would take the
form of funds and design.
.

drawing (again I believe)
