Board
Meeting March 18
George Brookhart called
the meeting to Order
early at the Café On The
Grove.
President’s Report:
Due to other
commitments, George is
unable to chair the
September 5K race this
year. A bid was received
from one company to
manage the race for
$6800, too much expense
at present. St. Agnes
would like to help with
the 5K; but, they don’t
want to take the lead.
In short, a Leader is
needed.
Treasurer’s Report:
Richard provided a
Balance Sheet as of
3/19/08 showing total
Liabilities and Assets
of $253.46 and a Profit
& Loss Statement for the
Club for the period
7/1/07 thru 3/19/08. In
addition, Richard
provided a Balance Sheet
as of 3/19/08 for our
Foundation showing
$21,398.45, $12,000 of
which is earmarked for
CEAN. In addition a
profit & Loss Statement
was provided for the
Foundation for the
period 7/1/07 thru
3/19/08. We’ve been
moving some cash. The
Board reviewed a
Preliminary Financial
Report for the 2008 Bull
Roast and related
documents. This year’s
results were discussed
along with tentative
plans for next year. The
recession has adversely
impacted sponsorships,
ticket and Silent
Auction sales.
VanderVort Report:
See Bruce’s excellent
email (also
below) describing
the Book Festival [SELL
tickets, bring wine,
donate used books,
identify sponsors], and
the July 2009 trip to
Bani, the Springhouse
Nature trail at The
Children’s Home.
Announcements: The
Children’s Home is
having a walk on
5/3/08.
Respectfully
submitted, Susan Souder,

Report for the Club Meeting
3-26-2008
Book Festival
The Catonsville Book Festival is
a month away. Even though the
Rotary Club is no longer the
leading organization behind the
event, there is plenty for us to
do to assist in the event and
there are proceeds to be enjoyed
for our Dictionary Project.
For a successful event, we can
assist in the following ways:
-
Sell tickets to the Authors’
Wine & Cheese Reception (we
hope that each club member
can sell at least two
tickets ($20 each). More
tickets are available – just
send me an email to request
more.
-
Donate used books – a bin
has been set up at Sam’s
Club (Ingleside Avenue and
Baltimore National Pike) to
collect used books. The
first box of books was
delivered today!
-
We can also use bottles of
wine for the Authors’
Reception. We can bring
donations to Rotary or drop
them off at the Library.
-
We will need volunteers for
Friday night (April 25th)
and Saturday (April 26th).
With more volunteers – the
shifts should be shorter.
We’ll have a sign-up sheet
later in April.
-
For next year – we need a
liaison from Rotary to work
with the Friends of the
Catonsville Library.
Bani Trip
It is time to start some serious
planning for the July trip to
Bani. We should start looking
for the best fares for airline
tickets. Our target time is the
weekend of July 11th.
We will soon need commitments
from those who would like to
make the trip. It will be a
select few because of limited
funds. We will continue to work
with the Bani club to develop
the project and schedules.
The Children’s Home Community
Walk
The Children’s Home is
conducting a Community Walk for
Children and Families on
Saturday May 3rd. We
are looking for teams to walk
courses around Catonsville to
raise money for the Home. It is
just one week after the Book
Festival.
Suggestion: We could donate
$100. Anyone who would like to
walk (up to five members) can do
so. (We have not made any
financial donation to the Home
this year).
