satisfied with his complete set of Stephen Hunter
autographed First Editions. Tom had a good time at
a convocation of Harley Owners at Deep Creek Lake
and he's looking forward to 2 weeks of making
trouble with his visiting grandson.
Bruce
reminded all of the Farmer's Market on Wed. from 10
- 1. He also provided precious photos of all 11 of
his cats, many of whom are available for adoption.
He and his wife are active in Pet Rescue of
Maryland. They have also fostered 3 dogs. Reggie was
relieved to have satisfied part of the 65% meeting
attendance requirement. Susan reported that her
father is arriving from California for a visit.
4.
President's Report - George made several
presentations. Cal (finally) received his
well-deserved Outstanding Service Award for his work
on several projects. Despite his humble tries to
avoid it, Bruce was recognized for his excellent
service as our President during the last year.
Perfect
Attendance Award pins were presented to 10 members :
Larry, George, Richard, Chris, Ray, Karen, Susan,
Russ, John and for the THIRD year in a row, Bruce.
Our Club
has one of the highest attendance records in the
District (due in part to an expansive, but
reasonable, interpretation of what constitutes a
meeting).
President
Brookhart also doubled as our official photographer,
with some assistance from Ray. We'll try again to
get a photo in the Times.
5.
Treasurer's Report - The Club has approx. $1300.
Dues notices have been sent. Semi-annual dues must
be paid by next week so prompt payment would be
appreciated. The Foundation has approx. $6000,
$4500 of which is allocated to the CEFM. Steve Dare
was able to provide $500 from the Allstate
Foundation.
George
Brookhart and Jerry Pilcher contributed to the
Rotary Int. Foundation and were made Paul
Harris Fellows thru a matching grant program.

School's Ellipsis magazine, and the Dictionary
Project. Bruce has spoken with authors who will
return and some new authors.
10.
Richard said that the CEFM will be moving into the
new building the week of 8/18. Help is needed as
there is much to move. Brent spent 3 hours recently
trying to rip junipers out of the front of the
building. Most of the painting is done. Windows
still need cleaning, power-washing would be nice.
11.
Membership - Kimberly has made some telephone calls
to prospective members. There was a discussion of
prospects Joe LoVerde, Sherry Welsh, and Arthur
Frank. President Brookhart would like to bring in 6
new members this year, hoping to boost our numbers
to 30 (assuming we might lose as many s 3 members we
already have). Currently, we have 27 members.
Discussion ensued on brochures and other materials
for prospects.

have a fundraising pancake breakfast at her new

Club Meeting,
July 19
-
President Brookhart promptly called the meeting
to order at about 7:35 am.
-
After the Pledge and Devotion, there were many
Happy Dollars. Chris Jones reported that he and
Colleen had miraculously received a full price
offer on their house in Michigan. Chris is
moving to NC.
-
Peter joyously reported that his wife is
pregnant. Jerry told us about a neighborhood car
wash (that is now over). Richard happily
announced that he had been married to Toni for
32 years. There may have been other happy folks
as well.
-
Our Speaker was Erin Boguski with Meals on
Wheels. She explained that MOW delivers 2 meals
a day to each client, Monday through Friday,
that is, one hot and one cold meal. Kosher,
sugarless, and other special meals are
available. In addition, MOW will shop for
groceries and put them away for clients who can
cook for themselves. Brochures were distributed
describing the various programs and services
which may be temporary or more permanent.
Approx. 800 people work for MOW in the Balt.
City/County area working approx. 50 shifts a
month. Therer is a chronic need for more
volunteers.
-
Some MOW clients pay on a sliding scale; others
receive meals free. Web site:
www.mealsonwheelsmd.org
-
MOW was founded in London, after WW II;
Baltimore has had a chapter since 1967.
-
The next meeting will be a Club Business
Meeting.

Board
Meeting, July 18
President Brookhart called the meeting to order
promptly.
-
George presented the President’s Report
mentioning a Club and District Exposure
Survey members are encouraged to submit. The
Survey was distributed by email to those
who have visited (registered on) the
District’s Web site. The Business Weekly is
again featuring a supplement featuring
Rotary Clubs in the area. Our Club’s meeting
address needs to be changed. George also
discussed Big Books Voting. The Club is
donating $200 to a silent art auction
benefiting Habitat for Humanity which is
being sponsored by Coldwell Banker.
-
Mr. President again asked members who have
not supplied their very short (and much
anticipated) biographies and pictures to
please do so as it makes our Club’s Web site
so much more complete (and we are such a hot
looking Club).
-
Our Club’s policy is to require 65% meeting
attendance by each member. “Meeting
attendance” is defined, in addition to
regular meetings, as including attendance at
Board meetings, the Bull Roast planning
meetings, any social event held by the Club,
attending other Club’s meetings. Refer to
past minutes for the exact policy.
-
The Treasurer presented his Report. Richard
received approval of his strong
recommendation to change the Club’s accounts
to another Bank. He is sending bills for
Paul Harris contributions.
-
The proposed Budget for 2006-2007 was
considered. It was based on 30 active
members and a proposed increase in quarterly
dues to $175, which increase is recommended
to the membership by the Board. One of the
Board’s financial goals this year is to
build a modest cash reserve in the Club’s
operating account.
-
The Foundation’s has about $6500 on hand,
$4000 of which has been allocated to the
Food Ministry.
-
The Vice-President reported that he is
looking into new club shirts, probably from
Land’s End.
-
Community Service Lane Director Galley
reported on preparations for the Arts and
Crafts Festival on 9/10. we will again be
selling soft pretzels and funnel cakes (the
latter depends on whether we would have
competition). John has some good ideas for
improving our Festival performance.
-
International Service Lane Director
VanDervort presented a WRITTEN report with
Objectives, Fund Raising Goals and a Map
showing the Dominican Republic. It was very
helpful in explaining how he proposed for
the Lane to raise the $1500 to be donated to
the DR project, Student Scholarships, a
Cultural Exchange – Theatre Troupe, and the
River Blindness Project.
-
The sources for funds are the
afore-mentioned Arts & Crafts Festival Food
Booth, Happy dollars & 50/50, After Holiday
Auction (cool new idea), and individual
donations.
-
WebMaster Jones is moving to Charlotte NC on
8/12/06. Chris will continue to manage our
Club’s Web site (which is the best one
around)
-
Prospective new members were discussed.
-
Richard presented an interesting fundraising
concept for July 2007 – a Car Show. An
organization called Sweet Cars of Desire
would manage a 2 day show in Catonsville at
CCBC sponsored by the St. Agnes Foundation
(which would front $20,000 for expenses
including advertising and trophies). The
proceeds would benefit the St. Agnes
Foundation, the Catonsville Emergency Food
Ministry, the Chamber of Commerce and our
club. There would be a new car corral, and
auto-related vendors. There would be
1000-1200 cars. More discussion to come.
Please advise as to corrections, Thanks. Susan

Club
Meeting, July 12
President George energetically called the
meeting to order.
-
The League of Dreams is hosting a
fundraising golf tournament 10/16. I think
George has the info.
-
Peter reported that the Y’s 5 K race is
making progress. Brochures are now
available. Sue Miller from St. Agnes has
been sending emails soliciting volunteers.
-
It was announced that Zeke McCann from
Paradise in the teacup passed away. Memorial
service tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm.
-
Kimberly (not Kim) Smrek, Membership Chair,
asked for 3 names of prospective Rotary
members from each member.
-
Happy Dollars were offered by many members.
Tom Medicus was in trouble, yet again, with
his grandson, Adam. Brent provided the
international angle; Reggie reported on the
Disabled Sports Independence celebration in
Breezy Point. Jerry proffered a dollar
because Doug exists. Doug reminded all of
free Lurman Theatre concerts – this Sunday
is the Deanna Bogart Band which several of
us will be attending. Karen related Ray’s
inauguration of their new canoe.
6. Jacob Meyerson made another guest
appearance.
-
Kimberly Smrek was our Classification
Speaker. She married her high school
sweetheart and became a mother at 19. She
has a passion for animals, “found or pound.”
She has 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 aquatic frogs.
The frogs are 11 years old and live in a 35
gallon tank. Kimberly’s daughter works at
Columbia Animal Hospital.
-
Our newest member Kimberly has worked in a
number of positions in the past in the
banking industry. Now that she is 40, she
feels her career as a loan consultant is
really taking off. She described many
flexible products which she presents to her
wide range of clients. She strives for the
best product for each of her clients.
-
Kimberly has lived on N. Beaumont for 7
years. She spoke with Larry Aaronson at the
Women’s Expo and decided to visit our Club
because she wanted to know more about her community. She enjoys
dancing to all kinds of music.
These are my first minutes as Secretary. I\ll
try to be a little more prompt. Feel free to
offer advice regarding same.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Souder
