June 16, 2005
The Rotary Club of Catonsville Sunrise announced today that it had presented,
through its charitable foundation, a van for the Catonsville Emergency Food
Ministries. The funds to purchase this van were from the proceeds of the Annual
Bull and Oyster Roast held at Martin’s West on February 27, 2005. Over 390
persons attended the event which featured music, dancing, a silent auction, and
full complement of food prepared by Martin’s Caterers.
Attending the ceremonial presentation of the keys to the van are, John Monck,
the executive director of CEFM, the Honorable Susan Souder, representing the
Rotary Club of Catonsville Sunrise Charitable Foundation and Beverly Wright, the
current president of the Rotary Club of Catonsville Sunrise, along with many of
the Club members.
“This van will make it easier for the Food Ministries to both collect and
distribute the thousands of pounds of food we give each year, particularly
during the holiday seasons,” said John Monck.
The last van was a gift from the Mohler family here in Catonsville, and was
stolen two weeks before Thanksgiving last year. When police recovered the van
about a week later, it had been stripped and vandalized beyond repair.
“We put bold identifying graphics on this van. Hopefully, it will be more
secure,” said club president, Beverly Wright.
The Catonsville Emergency Food Ministries is now located at 1 Newburg Avenue.
Anyone interested in donating non-perishable food items can drop them off at the
